SHIFTING GEARS - BIKE DONATION DRIVE JUNE 7-22 AT BICYCLE GARAGE INDY

Bicycle Garage Indy (BGI) is calling on the Central Indiana community to donate used bikes to Shifting Gears.  Through the Shifting Gears program, each donated bike makes a positive difference in the many lives it touches - from the donor, to the people refurbishing the bike and finally for the person receiving the refurbished bike.

There is great demand for bikes this summer.  During the Shifting Gears Bike Donation Drive (June 7-22), donors of bikes will receive $10 off a new youth bike and/or $20 off a new adult bike at BGI.  Read more.

VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA TO HOP ABOARD BUSES FOR BASEBALL

On June 19, 2008, the Major League Baseball Players Trust and the Cincinnati Reds will host Buses for Baseball and VOA Indiana will hop aboard.  This event will give 49 children and youth from the Indianapolis area the opportunity to catch a game, meet the Reds players and enjoy complimentary food and soft drinks during the game.

Buses for Baseball gives underprivileged kids throughout the United States and Canada the chance to attend a Major League game and meet the players.  The Players Trust partners with local transit authorities and Major League teams, as well as charitable organizations in all Major League cities to share the thrill of a Big League game with kids who need more chances to smile.

A related initiative of the Players Trust are youth ACTION TEAMS.  ACTION TEAMS, an expanding youth volunteer initiative created and administered by Volunteers of America and the Major League Baseball Players Trust, is training the next generation of volunteers. ACTION TEAMS of Major League baseball players and area high school students work together to inspire and encourage youth to get involved helping those in need in their communities. Learn more about how to become involved or sponsor an ACTION TEAM in Indianapolis.
