The holidays are swiftly approaching, and the children of our residential clients, like children everywhere, are turning their thoughts to toys and games and holiday fun. We hope that you will help us make their wishes come true, and ensure that each child has a special gift to open during the holidays. Also, “Gifts of the Heart” are adult gifts for our residential women and men who have not yet transitioned home after jail or prison. Adult gifts are also appropriate for the homeless veterans who reside in our facilities and who often have no family around them during the holiday season.
Here's how you can participate in our holiday toy and gift drive:
1. Hold a toy drive/gift collection at your office or amongst friends and family
2. Collect new, unwrapped gifts for all children up to age 17 (no toy weapons or candy, please) or small, useful gifts for adults of all ages. (see our Wish List of suggestions below)
3. Deliver the gifts to us by December 1 – our Holiday Open House – from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.* and BRING A FRIEND or CO-WORKER! Address is 927 N. Pennsylvania Street. Refreshments and building tours available.
If you would like to help, but don't have time to shop, please go to www.voain.org to donate online or drop off/mail your check made out to Volunteers of America to 927 N. Pennsylvania Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46204 - noting Toy Drive on the memo line.
Your gifts truly brighten the holidays for children and adults in need. We are blessed to be able to share the joy of the season that so many of us take for granted. And the need was increased even greater this past year when water damage flooded our storage area of previously collected gifts and items. We need your help to replenish the lost toys and gifts! Thank you in advance for your generosity that ensures every kid receives a gift.
2011 WISH LIST – VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA OF INDIANA
Children’s toys for ages 0 – 17 suggestions including:
l stuffed animals l dolls l craft/art sets l board games l crayons/coloring books
l basketballs/footballs l DVD movies l remote control cars l video games l diary sets
l educational toys l jewelry-making kits l anything Sesame Street or Dora the Explorer
l Hot Wheels cars l building sets/blocks/Legos l hat/gloves/scarf sets l bath/shower kits
General adult gifts/items including:
l Underwear (all men’s and women’s sizes) l DVDs & Magazines (for women) l socks
l Bibles, any type of spiritual reading material l Umbrellas/rain ponchos l hats/gloves
l Variety of makeup & feminine hygiene products (women only) l shampoo/lotions/soaps
l Coats l single-day bus tickets ($4 ea) or funds to purchase them l long underwear
Remember to bring all toys and gifts un-wrapped. Donated wrapping paper and tape is appreciated.
*Gifts and donations will be accepted throughout December at the main door/lobby of Volunteers of America at 927 N. Pennsylvania Street, Indianapolis. We need as much as possible by December 1 however to prepare and wrap gifts for the children’s and parent’s parties which are held early in the month.
